Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . 1937 National Chicle Diamond Stars Extension card to 1934-1936 Series #120 - Lonnie Warneke ~ Chicago Cubs Original card issued in 1981 by Den's Collectors Den One of the hobby's entrepreneurs of the 1970s and '80s was the late Dennis W. Eckes, owner of Den's Collectors Den, Laurel, Maryland, who produced collector guide books in conjunction with Dr. Jim Beckett, R. J. "Jack" Smalling and Christopher Benjamin, among other activities. One of the great finds by Denny was a dozen examples of original artwork intended for National Chicle's Diamond Stars series issued 1934-1936. This card is one of those 12 issued by Mr. Eckes in 1981. We consider it an original, not a reprint, although it was issued many years after its intended issue date and is so noted by the copyright line at the bottom/reverse. Made in the same 2-3/8 by 2-7/8 inch size as their half-century old brethren, the twelve fit seamlessly with the first 108 cards, featuring brief tips or other commentary in the style of Boston American's Austen Lake by Sport Americana's Christy Benjamin. Includes statistics for 1936 season. Collector Tip! Colorful and creatively constructed, this card displays well in standard 9-pocket sheets with plenty of coverage.
