Description: A fairly common large cent issue, however, this variety is scarce and very popular. A Sheldon 239 variety, better known as the "Elephant Trunk" variety, features two prominent die cracks on the obverse in front of Liberty's face that resemble an elephant trunk. A later die state as evidenced by the sharpness of the "trunk" and the amount of reverse die clashes, this is a perfect example for the variety collector. PCGS has only graded four pieces finer for the variety. A handsome AU example with milk chocolate surfaces glowing with pleasing luster. Minimal wear is present leaving strong details appreciable. Graded an AU55 by PCGS, CAC has granted their GOLD CAC sticker signifying that they would sticker it at the next grade level. This is a fascinating piece that deserves a place in a high-end variety collection. - Draped Bust Cent
