Marshall.Illustrated with a frontispiece, and seven plates.Collated, complete.This volume includes 'Black Jenny' by Mrs Moodie, 'An Infant's Dirge' by J. F. Hollings, 'The Farmer's Boy' by Bernard Barton, as well as 'The Little Shepherdess' and 'The Orphan of Battersea' by Agnes Strickland.Four pages of adverts to the rear.Inscribed to the recto of the front endpaper, "Cecilia Napier, from her affectionate friend, Caroline Fox, Novem. 28th 1831", and, "Given me by dear Miss Fox, Little Holland House". Caroline Fox was the neicer of Whig statesman Charles James Fox. She lived at Little Holland House from 1802 until her death in 1845, and founded a charity school near the site in 1842 which is still in existence today, known now as Fox Primary School. CONDITION In a full morocco binding. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing, mostly to the spine and extremities, a little heavier to the rear board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a small amount of lifting to the head of the spine. Spine is a little faded. Front hinge is starting but firm, rear hinge is a little strained. Bookplate to the front paste down. Gift inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned with scattered spots. Small tidemark to the gutter of the final few pages.
