Description: ULTRA RARE TRUE FIRST EDITION OF, BOHN'S HAND-BOOK OF WASHINGTON, PUBLISHED IN 1852, WITH ALL 20 ENGRAVINGS. There are no copies of this online for sale, only later editions published in 1854 - 1858 are available online. By my research, I believe that this True First Edition did not feature a fold-out street map or a fold-out Senate seating chart, but later editions did have these featured fold-outs. All pages of the true 1852 First Edition can be found in Google Books online PDF of the full book, and there is no featured map or Senate seating chart. That copy has all the exact pages of the version in this listing. Interestingly, this true first edition book has, "Illustrated with twenty engravings of public buildings, &c" on the title page. That Google book and mine have 18 engravings within the book, but the online book does not have any further engravings. HOWEVER, THE BOOK OF THIS LISTING HAS AN ENGRAVING AFFIXED BEHIND BOTH THE FRONT AND THE BACK BOARDS, BRINGING THE TOTAL TO 20 ENGRAVINGS. Besides the fact that the Google Books book did not have any fold-out map or seating chart, I have seen no evidence anywhere that the 1852 First Edition had a fold-out map or a fold-out seating chart, but there is a Library of Congress version of the 1854 printing with full-book page images showing the Senate seating chart and the fold-out map at the back of the book. IN SUMMARY, I surmise that the True First Edition published in 1852 did not have these fold-outs, while later editions did have them, but I cannot state this with certainty. This copy is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Clean brown cloth boards with embossed decoration on the front and back boards, and spine, and an orange title on the front board. There is a little bit of spine loss on top of spine. It is very solidly bound with no interior marks. 98 pages with all 20 engravings confirmed present, including the front and rear board engravings both of which are shown in listing photos.
