To a front blank is tipped in the 1895 newspaper clipping of the author's obituary in the Times. Gaisford writes to the head of this clipping: 'this is the first edition 1857 - in my library will be found also the edition [...] printed 1881 only 100 copies - and ed. 1872 - both of these were given to me by my friend the Author'.This work established Locker-Lampson's poetic legacy, and saw numerous further extended editions printed in his lifetime. CONDITION In a straight grain morocco binding, with gilt detailing. Light discolouration to back strip, with a touch of rubbing to back strip head. Boards exceptionally bright. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Newspaper obituary to front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with significant spotting throughout.
