Jacob ben Abraham Kahana. The novellae are on the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmuds as well as the Tosefta. The title-page says informs that these are halakhic novellae that penetrate the depths of the denim with source references and the positions of the rishonim. the Babylonian Talmud, the Tosefta, and the Jerusalem Talmud respectively. Appended to Ge’on Ya’akov is the kuntress Zikhron Yosef (1863) by R. Israel Issur, a student of R. Raphael Nathan Nuta, explaining positions on bein ha-Shemoshus (sunset). There are approbations from R. Joseph Saul ha-Levi Nathansohn and R. Bezalel ben Israel Moses ha-Kohen.R. Jacob ben Abraham Kahana (d. 1826) was a rabbinical scholar in Vilna. His father was rabbi at Brestowitz in the province of Grodno. Supported by his father-in-law, R. Issachar Baer, the brother of R. Elijah of Vilna and one of the prominent rabbis of that town, he devoted himself to study. On the death of his father-in-law, he was appointed by the communal leaders of Vilna as trustee of the local charities. He is the author of a commentary in three parts on tractate Eruvin: on the tractate in Each section has a different title but the whole work was given the general title Ge'on Ya'akov.
