Description: 1865 2-cent piece, AU details, but damaged. Free shipping! Well, this coin is a mixed bag. It is short on looks, but long on substance. Someone seems to have taken an amazingly well-preserved 2-cent piece, and tried to melt a silver-colored substance onto it. This has left it with a silvery patch adhering to the obverse, and burn marks on the reverse. But, at the same time, it has almost no wear at all, which is pretty rare on a coin that was struck in the year Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. One bit of saving grace is that the details of the coin can be seen through the plating. Were it not damaged, I think it would grade as “About Uncirculated” because the date is strong, and every bit of “IN GOD WE TRUST” is visible, including the word “WE” in between the two ribbons That is the spot that tends to wear first on these coins, and on this one there is very little wear on the “WE,” and no wear that I can see on the leaf tips or arrow points. Check out the photos, as they show the actual coin you will receive. You can see examples of the various grades of this coin at this website by the PCGS: https://www.pcgs.com/photograde#/TwoCent/Grades. The value listed in the 2025 Red Book for the “About Uncirculated” grade is $85.00 -- but that would be if it were undamaged, which it's not. I will send you this perplexing old coin for just $16.95, and I will pay the postage to get it to your mailbox secured in and eBay Standard envelope tracked and insured. Our lot no 474
