Description: Here's a wonderful campaign photo from the 1868 republican presidential candidate, Ulysses Grant, the man who got credited for winning the Civil War for the North. He was elected to the highest office twice, the second time by one of the largest margins in our history. He was also a fairly young man when he got that job which many people don't even realize, about the age of John Kennedy and Bill Clinton were when they were elected. And, of course, he's very popular among the Civil War hobby as well. These photographic examples are sometimes referred to as gem photos, perhaps because the .75" x 1" image is wrapped in such an ornate metallic covering. We believe it is made of brass as stated in Anderson Americana descriptions. Sometimes the gem photos of that period had metal folding lapel pin backs like our Horatio Seymour example does which we just listed. But sometimes they didn't, as this example shows. This in nice condition for 150+ years-old, but please look at our images to judge this for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. There are no returns and if you have to have a perfect example, this may not be for you. But try finding something this old which IS perfect. If one is, prepare to pay a high premium with all the resulting competition for it. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. And we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases which we do by issuing a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on this will be $5.50, carefully packed, first class with tracking and we'll spring for the extra insurance since the USPS only covers $100. 8049
