Description: Back in the 19th century, photographs like this were produced during and after the Civil War in order to show the public what the presidential candidates looked like. Jugate examples with both nominees are the ones most desired among collectors, although single image examples printed by Matthew Brady and his contemporaries can bring a lot of money in a competitive market. This 2 3/8" x 4" carte de visite shows the 1868 republican ticket of Ulysses Grant and Schuyler Colfax, who beat their democrat opponents, Horatio Seymour and Frank Blair, quite soundly. But that's no wonder since Grant was considered by most people at the time merely as the man who won the Civil War. This is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase since it does show some age. There's a crease and light staining, so we've priced this accordingly. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we won't. We just issue a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on this will be $5.50, carefully packed with tracking. 8178
