There were a total of four die-sets produced at the Philidelphia Mint (where all dies are produced) and received in Carson City in the summer of 1873. Because of the large percentage of resources diverted to the Trade Dollar, the Standing Liberty Dollar had a very low mintage of only 2,300 pieces. The Trade Dollar had a substantially higher total mintage of 124,500 pieces. That was by far the largest output of CC-mint marked dollars up until that point. At the time, there was very little numismatic interest in collecting Trade Dollars. Nearly all coins were shipped to China, with a few seeing domestic use. Contains 2 oz. Troy of .999 Fine Silver Obverse: Design Left-facing seated Liberty, who extends her hand, bearing an olive branch, over the sea. Reverse: Forward-facing eagle looking right, wings spread, clutching arrows with one talon and an olive branch with the other. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” across the top circumference, with a banner just below bearing “E. PLURIBUS UNUM”. Hallmark just below the eagle, and “TWO TROY OUNCES” below that, with CC mint mark in between.
