Description: ORIGINAL HARDCOVER Volume III Mar-Dec 1882 - Collectible half leather over marbled boards Journal of the Military Service Institution of the United StatesThe articles sound fascinating and I think would be of interest to a historian or collector. This book is part of a Set (others are listed). Besides the printed articles and essays, the books also include a few extras here and there such as a map, foldout, chart, illustration, diagram, B&W photo, tissue guard, ads etc. Ex-Library (National War College) with usual markings, labels, etc. Very clean pages - nearly all of its 502 pages are unmarked but there are some pencil notations/underlines at the beginning. Nicely patterned end papers. Interior hinges tape-reinforced. A few pages at the beginning are loose. Otherwise tight and solid copy especially considering it's 142 years old! I have not examined each page but I have tried to truly assess the book. I am not a book collector so please do inspect the photos and ask for more info if need be. I am also listing other volumes in this ORIGINAL SET up to 1892. Excerpts from Wikipedia:"The Journal of the Military Service Institution of the United States...was a bimonthly magazine devoted to the professional development of all branches of the service. It contained original papers on subjects relating to the conduct of military operations, reprints and translations from the journals of other militaries, commentary on current events and topics of interest, and reviews of books relevant to the study of warfare." The Military Service Institution of the United States was "a voluntary organization of officers of the Army for mutual improvement...[It was] fostered by Generals Sherman and Sheridan while they commanded the Army, and presided over by the senior major-generals, and has now for many years been the constant means of widespread increase in the most advanced studies of the Science and Art of War...It was organized on September 28, 1878, in New York City, with the first annual meeting taking place in January 1879. U.S. Army officers who created the organization believed there was a need for an organization dedicated to their professional development."
