All the presidents from Washington to Grover Cleveland have short biographies and portraits in this book. Reverend George Sumner Weaver (1818-1908) was an American theologian and author. He was born in Rockingham, Vermont. He studied law but quit to study and practice theology. His works include: Lectures on Mental Science According to Phrenology (1852), Hopes and Helps for the Young of Both Sexes (1853), Aims and Aids for Girls and Young Women on the Various Duties of Life (1854), The Ways of Life (1855), The Christian Household (1855), The Open Way (1873), Moses and Modern Science (1874), The Heart of the World (1883) and Lives and Graves of Our Presidents (1883). DESCRIPTION: 530 pages 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches CONDITION: This hard-cover book is in good condition and, like nearly all 19th century books, there is no (and never was) dustjacket. The book’s cover is mustard color cloth with black and gilt lettering and designs on front board and spine. The paged edges are marbled. There is wear at corners and spine ends and mild soil. The gilt portion of the design on the front board and the lettering on the spine has faded some. The front hinge has started--that is, it is starting to split. The endpapers are spotted. The front endpaper has an inked owner signature (Emma J. Owen, Ansonia, CT). The paper is browned from its acid content. This causes the page edges to be somewhat brittle, so it must be handled with care. There are a few tears, not many, in the the page edges--mostly in the first few pages.
