Description: 1888 - O Morgan Silver Dolllar - Uncirculated According to the U.S. Mint, the Morgans were designed by Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan and minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. This iconic silver dollar represented the country’s westward expansion and industrial development in the late 19th century. The Morgan was carried by Americans and used for everyday purchases as it was legal tender of the day. The obverse or heads side features Lady Liberty in profile. A cap, flora, and crown incused with the word “LIBERTY” adorn her head, while 13 stars, “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the year of issuance encircle her. The reverse or tails side depicts an eagle with outstretched wings clasping arrows and an olive branch, accompanied by a wreath. Reverse inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “ONE DOLLAR.” 1888 O Morgans were minted at over 12 million coins, but millions were melted during WWI. They can be common in as circulated coins due to subsequent releases from the U.S. Treasury vaults on several occasions. But it still holds good value. This coin is in very good condition showing nice detail and little wear for its age. I purchased this coin in a bulk purchase from an estate sale through a coin dealer that sold it as uncirculated. However, I cannot verify either way its circulation, and I am liquidating this coin to pay down personal debt.
