Description: Rare 1890 Cabinet Card Photo of Philadelphia Reading Pa. Train Wreck at Shoemakersville, Pa. This photograph shows the aftermath of a horrific train wreck on the Reading Railroad at Shoemakersville, Pa. on September 19, 1890. There was a collision of a freight train and a coal train. The collision of the two trains was followed by a third collision when the Philadelphia and Reading express train with 135 to 150 passengers on board crashed into the train cars on the tracks. Some of the cars from the passenger train went down the embankment into the Schuylkill River. This cabinet card measures approximately 8" x 5". There is wear around the edges.
