Description: A nice 130-year-old original Meredith's Diamond Club Rye Whiskey advertising quart size jug from the pre-prohibition era of the 1890s. Labeled: ‘MEREDITH'S DIAMOND CLUB PURE RYE WHISKEY EXPRESSLY FOR MEDICINAL USE EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO’. ‘TRADE ‘MWC & Co.’ MARK’ with a diamond shape on the middle leg of the letter ‘W’, the monogram inside diamond. A monogram on front of neck, of ‘MWC & Co.’ with a diamond shape on the middle leg of the letter ‘W’. ‘K.T.&K. CHINA’ printed on bottom (for Knowles Taylor & Knowles). White glazed china jug with applied handle, a square ring collar, 7 ½ inches tall, round ovoid shape, sparkling nice condition with two tiny chips on edge of lip, not detracting. The larger chip goes down into the gold ring around the top of the jug and may have been a kiln flaw or damage, as there is gold on top of it. The gold highlights are all there, which unusual for this jug. No other damage, chips or cracks. Looks to have the original cork stopper still in it. The jug is empty. A shiny clean jug with no stain or blemish. For further reference see ‘Whiskey Galore, a celebration of stoneware whisky jugs & more’ published in 2010, by authors Blakeman & Bloomfield, page 129. A similar jug sold at auction for 80-120 British Pounds. This jug was sold with Meredith's Diamond Club Whiskey from East Liverpool, Ohio. I only ship Priority Mail, as the USPS confirms delivery.
