Description: This auction is for an Art Nouveau 1890's Ceramic tile from Minton Hollis & Co Patent Tileworks Stoke on Trent No 2. Glaze finish. It looks like a "Four Seasons" style tile based on a write-up below* (focusing on holly). 2 MARKINGS - one appears to be in ink (after TILE), the other appears to be in pencil (after STOKE). Not sure if these markings are right side up or upside down in the photo. Purchased at an antique shop in Scotland in 1988. SUPERB CONDTION. No defects but please do see the photos and inspect for yourself. *The collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum encompasses a large collection of costumes from the London theater, including these two creations by “Wilhelm” (William Charles Pitcher) for productions in the 1890s: Holly personified, with Mistletoe and alone. From the same era and collection is the Minton “Four Season” tile, with holly representing winter.
