Description: True Show Stopper!Stunning Antique Victorian Library Pull Down Hanging Electric or Possible Oil Lamp with Pearlescent Bubble Glass Shade & Milk White Font Cover for Brass Font, Classic Ornate Hanging Parlor, Entry, Library or Other Lamp Approx: 12.5 lbs, Hanging 38" (as photoed) x 17" Wide (metal bracket)Just Reduced! This one defines the Classic Victorian hanging lamp! Very rare white pearlescent bubble shade and milk white font cover on bottom are a perfect elegant contrast to the intricate detailed & patina'd metal carriage frame. Not sure of the maker or exact age, as we acquired from a very selective collector's estate. It has a Patent Date of April 11 1893 on the brass font. This looks very similar to many Bradley Hubbard lamps from the era, but it is not marked that we could see. The pull down chain mechanism works, but we only gently moved it up and down an inch or two a few times as we did not want to damage it, but the retrieval spring seems fairly strong. The mechanism could use a thorough cleaning as it has some rust and gummy oil, but the prior owner probably used it as it is for over 50 years and it hangs pretty low already. We only gently cleaned the lamp framing and glass portions after acquiring and made no attempts to polish metal as many prefer the patina look. The pearl melon or bubble shade is approx: 13.75" D x 7.25" H and has some noted dings to the top edge of the glass (as shown in pictures). But, they are not visible with top metal crown wrap in place as you can see and they do not overly effect the item's appeal but we wanted to note it. The lower rim is in good shape with only minor flea bits along edge. This is an extremally rare shade and is simply stunning. The metal frame bracket it rests in is just over 14" in diameter and has intricate detailing. The lower milk white font (7" W) cover is in great shape and the brass font may still be usable for oil, but appears to need some internal parts for the wick. It is marked Made in USA and the turn knob works and it has the font cap, we just were not sure how it would hold the wick as it is. We placed a glass Chimney we had in stock on the brass font and used a 13W light bulb that fits in it well (we will include the chimney & bulb for you). This has been fitted with a top electric plug in cord with a drop down socket as shown in the pictures. The cord is likely 45-50 years+ years in age but appears solid. This could easily be rewired in a dozen ways or converted back to oil by adding some parts to brass font or simply putting a new font in holder that is 5" in diameter. If you look at pictures you can see options. We photographed the lamp as best we could in different light settings to try and capture it's full essence and just as we obtained it. It is truly lovely with or without lights and will set the tone for any antiqued room or entry. We thought some drop prism crystals would really be neat and many people do this with these old beauties, but it came as you see it. Note: The lighting you see in pictures is from the 13W bulb shown in pictures. Obviously, lighting will vary depending on the source you choose to use. It will have a different look if you adapt back to oil or kerosene or use other wattage or lumen bulbs. We feel if this was in minty shape it would be a $1,000 or more lamp and are pricing accordingly, but it still is sharp and fairly solid. As noted below, we ship with extreme care. The lamp melon shade will be packed in it's own padded box within the larger shipping box or something of equivalent protection (like a sectioned box or other). We will try our best to keep drop chains as firmly secured as we can so you can easily reassemble the lamp. We found it easier to assemble if you have another person assist you as there are numerous delicate and moving parts. Of course, the glass shade needs to be gently placed on bracket and extra hands make that much easier. The shade is fairly thick glass, but you always want to use caution with them. The milk glass portion is already firmly in place and will come assembled. We found it best to hang frame first and then place shade in place. You can do this with chains in place as they slip around shade. This will take us an hour or two to pack, so we may need an extra day to get it out, but we always want to feel 100% sure we have exhausted every effort to pack safely. Please Read: We ship with extreme care and all items are fully insured! Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often. Signature confirmation will be required on your item if it is above $100, so please plan accordingly. We can make an exception on signature "required" but be aware if any item goes missing from your porch or other after delivery, insurance will not cover it and you would run the risk of loss. Also, we have discounts with FedEx & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
