Description: Jerome K. Jerome (1859-1927) was an English writer and humorist. THE IDLE THOUGHTS OF AN IDLE FELLOW (1886) was a collection of essays which helped to establish him as a leading English humorist. This was a very popular title and released contemporaneously by a number of publishers. This particular volume is part of the Handy Volume Series (1894-1900) of the Donohue, Henneberry & Co., 407, 425 Dearborn Street, Chicago. It is undated but research assigns this cover design to their 1896 offerings, which often came out for Christmas sales of the previous year. 4 1/2" by 6". Good condition. Half floral decoration stamped in silver on tan boards; boards are bumped and have small stains. Front hinge is beginning to tear and spine is broken at dedication page. Text is tanned from age and a few pages have small chips. There is a very faint gift dedication on the free end paper.
