Description: 1929 Zeenut (PCL) -ANDREW "BUCKY" HARRIS McGALLIARD (Sacto) -1st American MVP in Japan. Fascinating story that is nearly all but forgotten. Harris McGalliard played professional baseball under the name "BUCKY HARRIS" (not the HOFer by the same name) in the United States and in 1936 he was the first American to go to Japan and play professionally in the Japanese Baseball League. He was a star there and won the MVP in 1937. Somewhat famously later while fighting in WW2 he was interrogating a Japanese POW who recognized him as the professional baseball player "Bucky Harris" then Bucky realized the captured Japanese POW was catcher Katsumi Oki & that had played against each other in the late 1930's in the Japanese leagues. The Zeenut series was produced every year by the Collins Candy Co from 1911 to 1938, each set contained somewhere between 48 to nearly 200 cards and includes many players that were both future or former Major League players. The 1929 set is a fun sets to collect and among the "Black & White" Zeenut issues from the 1920's. Please see scans for condition.
