Description: Louis Chiron Rookie card He was one of the best interwar car racers. He took part in many important races and represented the most famous brands, from Bugatti to Mercedes and Delage to Alfa Romeo. The new Bugatti model, the Chiron, was named after him. He managed to win the 1931 Monaco Grand Prix at home, where such aces as the Italians Achille Varzi and Tazio Nuvolari and the Germans Rudolf Caracciola and Bernd Rosemeyer were on the grid. In 1949, during a non-championship F1 race (regulations known from 1947 as Formula A, the 1st official F1 championship was not held until 1950), he retired from first place due to a breakdown in his Maserati. His unforgettable driving style gave rise in the 1930s to the winged saying "he drives like a chevron", which is still used today for fast and risky drivers. Louis Chiron had an extraordinarily long sporting career. As recently as the 1955 Monaco Grand Prix, where he celebrated his 56th birthday, he finished sixth in a Lancia D50.
