This type or design Zwei Rentenmark note was issued dated January 30, 1937. They were issued with both seven and eight digit serial numbers. The “Rentenmark” was introduced on November 15, 1923 in an effort to stop the hyperinflation of 1922 and 1923 in Weimar Germany, after the previously used “Mark” had become almost worthless. The “Rentenbank” was created on October 15, 1923 as part of a stabilization plan for the currency developed by Hans Luther, the Minister of Finance, and Hjalmar Schacht at the Reichsbank.
