Wholesale Italian marriages to be duplicated in Montreal -- Montreal, Canada - Above are some of the 700 couples who attended a special Mass in the Church of Santa Maria Degli Angeli in Rome after they had been married in their various parishes during the wholesale marriages in Italy in 1933 as the result of Premier Mussolini's efforts to increase the country's population. On July 23rd a mass marriage of 100 couples will take place in Notre Dame Church in Montreal - not to increase the population but to offset the unfavorable publicity caused by the divorce courts. The Montreal mass marriage was planned and organized by Father Henri Roy, Oblate Priest of Montreal. The couples to be married there are Jocists, an organization founded by Father Roy and composed of 50,000 young catholic workers in Canada and the United States.
