Description: Circa1940sJens Risom Lounge Chair Knoll Estate Find We offer an early pre-1950s production Jens Risom Lounge Chair frame by Knoll. The chair frame features early production techniques not found on later manufacturing. The joints between the side seat rail and back rail have a splined joint and the outer screw holes are pegged at the back and front legs. The chair retains the original webbed pads at the front legs. The chair is either birch or maple and retains the shadows of the original webbing placement. The chair has loose joinery and a partial split on back rail that needs repair. The chair frame measures approximately 29" in height, 20" in width and 29 1/2" in overall depth. There are additional auction listings of a matching chair frame with early replacement webbing and a post 1950s production chair frame on our site. The chair comes from the estate of Vernon Smith, AIA, 1922-2015. Vernon Smith attended Texas A&M in College Station, Texas and graduated in 1949, with a degree in architecture. He took his first job in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he would spend the rest of his life practicing architecture. In 1962, he partnered with John Russo to establish the architectural and engineering firm of Smith & Russo. Vernon Smith was an active member of the AIA.
