Description: Here is a great old World War ll era work order for a driver to pick up some celebrities at a Naval festival held in Chicago in 1944, and it turns out that driver was a big fan of entertainers, doing his best to secure autographs from those he was able to deal with. I was lucky enough to talk with a descendant of this gentleman decades ago, and his estate was rather amazing, seeing all the performers he had met as they entertained troops and city officials during the conflict of the war years. This piece of memorabilia from that historic time measures about 10 & 1/2" by 8", with light wear and a split or two nothing severe, a couple of hole punches at the top as filed. I have not done anything to alter or enhance the appearance of this neat paper, which bears an official-looking eagle watermark somewhat hard to see but still evident. and it has four autographs. Wallace Beery (1885-1949) was a prolific actor, perhaps best known for his title role in 1931's "The Champ", for which he won the Academy Award's Best Actor award that year. Jimmy Durante (1893-1980) was a comedic performer, a jazzy wizard on the piano, and his slouched hat and cigar under a huge nose made him a happy favorite among the celebrity crowd. Garry Moore (1915-1993) was a popular entertainer and media personality as well as a game show host, perhaps best known for his roles on "I've Got A Secret" and "To Tell The Truth". Georgis Gibbs (1918-2006) was a popular jazz influenced singer who was capable of many styles, frequently emulating black musicians of the era. Great stuff here, and one can only imagine the feisty conversations that must have taken place among this foursome! One of a kind. $300.
