An Index of Printers, Publishers and Booksellers was printed later in 1955. First edition. A detailed and extensive catalogue of short-titles printed in the United Kingdom, British America, and English books printed across the world from 1641 to 1700. With reference to the method of abridgement and a complete bibliographical reference for each work. Volume one contains A to England. Volume two contains England to Oxwick. Volume three contains P to Z. This work was originally intended as a continuation of the earlier "A Short-Title Catalogue of Books….1475-1640" compiled by Pollard and Redgrave in 1928. However, this catalogue became so popular in its own right that it was considered an indispensable tool for librarians and booksellers. Compiled by Donald Wing, an American Associate Librarian at Yale University best known for this work. CONDITION In the original grey cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine and library ink marks to the tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot to the endpapers. Pages 557 to 562 are creased to volume one. Chatham Reference Library bookplate to the front pastedown with the odd ink stamp to the pages.
