Description: This is a pair of Esterbrook J-Series fountain pens from the 1950s, both in black plastic with #2556 steel 'DuroCrome' nibs, with one pen being marked 'Bell System Property' although these pens allegedly came as a set. The Esterbrook #2556 nib is a 'Firm Fine' nib, with no tipping material, just the rolled steel, which was marketed as something of a feature of the material. The pens are both from the J-Series, featuring jewels at both the end of the barrel as well as the end of the cap. They also feature the registration mark '®' after the 'Esterbrook' imprint on the logos, and the piece at the end of the filling lever is rounded like a spoon. All these clues indicate that the pens were both manufactured after 1952, but likely before 1960, according the original owner. One pen (the one marked as 'Bell System Property) is very slightly shorter than the other, as well as being thinner. The difference possibly owing to a distinction between a men's and women's pen, but unclear at the moment. Measurements:Capped Length: 5 in/ 5.15in Uncapped Length: 4.65 in/ 4.6 in Very good vintage condition. Both pens are fully operational, and the lever filling system works perfectly. The nib on the pen with the unmarked barrel seemingly has a very slight bend to the tip of the nib. Some small scattered scuffs. Due to the age of the ink reservoirs, they will likely need to be replaced at some point, but at least for the moment they work well and don't leak. See photos for more details. Sold as-is.
