Description: Rare, signed ballet programme by English ballet dancer Beryl Grey inside Royal Opera House Covent Garden programme for Sadler's Wells Ballet, Season 1952. Beryl Grey stars in the ballet Sylvia, a ballet in three acts with music by Delibes, choreographed by Frederick Ashton and directed by Ninette de Valois. Dame Beryl Elizabeth Grey (nee Groom) 1927-2022) was a British ballet dancer born in Highgate whose talent was recognised by Ursula Moreton and Ninette de Valois who offered a scholarhsip at the age of ten. De Valois changed her surname from Groom to Grey when she began to attend the Sadler's Wells School in 1937. She had a successful international career and was the first Western, guest ballerina to dance with the Bolshoi Ballet. In 1964 she appeared in the Eamonn Andrew's TV show This is Your Life. This 16 programme is dated 1952. Has a clear Beryl Grey signature in ballpoint pen on the inside pages. The front cover is lightly creased and soiled with a short tear with no losses to the right margin - about one inch. Two rusty staples, otherwise internally good.
