Description: Official American League (Harridge) baseball signed by 20 members of the 1953 St. Louis Browns. Signed by Hall of Fame pitcher, Satchel Paige below the Reach logo. Ball lightly soiled with mild toning, stamping moderately faded; signatures show some rubbing and fading. Includes a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Housed in a clear acrylic display cube/stand. After his 20 year career in the Negro Leagues, in 1948 Paige finally made his appearance in Major League Baseball, one year after Jackie Robinson broke through. He subsequently led the Cleveland Indians to a World Series Champion the same year. In 1951 Paige went on to pitch for Rogers Hornsby’s St. Louis Browns. During the 1952 season, Hornsby was replaced with new manager Marty Marion (signature to sweet spot) who more liberally utilized Paige, appearing in 25 games by early July. That same month, Paige was named by Yankees’ manager Casey Stengel to the American League All-Star team, making Paige the first black pitcher on an AL All-Star team. The Official William Harridge American League baseballs were actively used by professional baseball from 1951-1959. ***** All items are guaranteed as described and authentic. A full signed letter of authenticity from The Bullpen is included with every item. We are proud members of The Professional Autograph Dealers Association.
