Description: 1954 Vintage Press Photo.Japanese scientists use Geiger counter to check radioactivity of large tuna, part of catch of fishing boat Fukuryu Maru which was showered with radioactive ash from the March 1 thermonuclear test explosion in the Bikini area. Part of the boat's catch reached public markets, causing sharp drop in prices. Daigo Fukuryƫ Maru was a Japanese tuna fishing boat with a crew of 23 men which was contaminated by nuclear fallout from the United States Castle Bravo thermonuclear weapon test at Bikini Atoll on March 1, 1954. The crew suffered acute radiation syndrome for a number of weeks after the Bravo test in March. Photo is Dated: March 22, 1954. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC PHOTO, NOT A COPY OR SCANS.
