I will be breaking up the complete 121-piece complete set of cards from the 1956 V339-5 Parkhurst "Frontier Days" release with each card listed in a separate auction. Each card has been graded by PSA. These scarce cards feature popular designs that accompanied Western-themed gum products in both U.S. and Canadian markets. Not only do the card fronts feature thrilling events and famed people—like, "Prairie Fire," "Jesse James Holdup," and "Black Hawk," for example—they deliver colorful and genuinely artistic, commissioned renderings to accompany the cards' subjects. This is a challenging, Canadian version of a U.S.-issued counterpart, R701-5 Bowman, which shared the same concept and artwork; the latter release, distributed during the company's waning days, repurposed expensive illustrations from the smaller-sized R701-19 "Wild West" production of 1949. Card backs reveal text in both French and English. No higher-graded examples have been confirmed in 110 of the 121 cards, and boasts 99 "Pop 1, None Graded Higher" status. With the cost of grading at $20+/ea and sourcing gradeable product from the 1950's not exactly an easy endeavor, this is a great opportunity to pick up rare, 68 year old high grade collectibles at an affordable price.
