The legend of Janosik in Czech tales tells of a Slovak folk avenger who took away ill-gotten wealth from the lords, fought injustice and defended the poor, disadvantaged fellow countrymen. One day, Janosik wished for strength to punish the cruel lords for the offenses they had caused the people. Then a mountain maiden gave him a belt with a magic root and a valashka, which contained the strength of a hundred men. While Janosik had this valashka in his hands, no one could defeat him. From that time on, Janosik began to avenge himself and the suffering Slovak people. He divided the lord's property into equal parts according to the number of his comrades.
