Description: 1977 Ghana 1, 2, 5, 10 Cedis Uncirculated Banknote Specimen Set with COA "GhanaGhana became independent on March 6, 1957. The first Ghanian banknotes were issued on July 14, 1958, the day the Ghanaian pound became legal tender, replacing the notes issued by the West African Currency Board. Today, the unit of currency is the Cedi, and the banknotes are issued in ₵1, ₵2, ₵5 and ₵10 denominations. On the front of each banknote is a hand-engraved portrayal of a citizen of Ghana - a young boy (₵1), a farmer with a hoe (₵2), a woman with a traditional straw hat (₵) and an old man with a pipe (₵10). Together the portraits express the country's proud spirit. On the back of each note is a finely detailed vignette depicting an important aspect of national life: cocoa and grain harvesting (₵1 and ₵2), the mosque at Lalabanga (₵5) and the massive Akosambo Dam on Lake Volta (₵10).There are several points about the banknotes of particular interest to collectors. Among them are the extensive use of engraved fine-line patterns (each note having a different pattern), the unusually varied range of harmonious color tones, the distinct designs in the background tints and the very striking watermark, an eagle bearing the black star symbolic of Ghana's independence.
