Description: A 1979 Pan American Games first participation medal for roller skating given out to people who were associated with the roller skating team. The games were held in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is a pretty interesting collectible. I am not an expert on these types of medals, so please realize the following comments are my opinion. I believe these types of participation medals would be given out to anyone who attended the competition. So it could have been given to a coach or assistant, for instance. I believe the USAC stands for United States (of) America Cycling and that Roller Skating competitors fell under their umbrella in 1979. Because the front of the medal shows two skaters, I believe this my have been for one of the "Mixed Events" competition which involve more than one person. The United States won Gold and Silver medals for all mixed events in 1979. This medal is 1.5 inches in diameter and weighs 26.76 grams. There is a slight ding on the edge of the medal that shows the American Eagle on roller skates. Let me repeat... There is an American Eagle on roller skates!
