Description: 2021 1OZ SILVER AUSTRALIA WOMBATThe Perth Mint is proud to introduce a brand new Australian wildlife series, featuring the Wombat. Almost as adorable as its close relative, the koala, however, this cute marsupial spends most of it’s time burrowing underground, rather than climbing gum trees, munching on leaves. The addition of the wombat to an official, legal tender Australian bullion coin is a natural fit. This new 2021 1oz Silver Australia Wombat BU coin is sure to be universally well-received.SMART, SHY & ADORABLEAs a legal tender release by Australia, the obverse displays the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to be featured on Australian coins. The portrait is based on that designed by Jody Clark of the Royal Mint for 2016. It is distinctively different, however, in that it displays the Queen’s shoulders and full neckline. She also wears the stunning Royal Diamond Diadem, the same she wore at her coronation. Inscriptions within the wide rim-band include “ELIZABETH II . AUSTRALIA . 1 DOLLAR.”The reverse of this 2021 1oz Silver Australia Wombat BU coin features a large image of an adorable wombat, poised on a small dirt mound within its burrow. The burrow and tunnel show the the surrounding soil and roots that maintain the integrity of the burrowed structure. Inscriptions include “WOMBAT” encircling the rim at the top. The traditional P mintmark is at the left rim, and “2021 . 1oz . 9999 . SILVER” at the bottom rim. This simple design wonderfully introduces this shy, adorable species. We are already looking forward to the 2nd annual release!BURROWING MARSUPIALSThere are three wombat species native to Australia – the common wombat, the fluffy wombat and two varieties of hairy-nosed wombats. Each of the three have very similar physical characteristics and practices. As a marsupial, the wombat’s young are carried from birth in the mother’s pouch. Birthing only a single joey every two-years, the newborn remains in the pouch for about 5 months before it is free to explore out. The wombat’s range generally includes eastern and southern Australia, as well as Tasmania. They are burrowing animals that dig extensive underground tunnel systems, venturing out nightly to forage on native plants and grasses. With this being the first release of the new series, and a very limited mintage of only 25,0000HIGHLIGHTS2021 1oz Silver Australia Wombat.Inaugural release of new Australia Wombat series.Contains 1 troy oz of 9999 Fine Silver BU.Limited mintage of only 25,000 for global distribution.Obverse: Displays the 6th generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing her coronation diamond diadem.
