Description: Our wildflower herb farm is located in the far corner of Northeast Iowa in the Upper Mississippi River Valley. Here in Elkader at our woodland farm we have been planting and growing herbs for 19 years. We use only organic conservation practices. Our herbs were all started from the wilds of Iowa woodlands. While now considered a cultivated herb, don't be fooled, the roots are as close to wild as you can get. Wild geranium thrives best in soil with plenty of organic matter, much like you'd find in a woodland, where soil is rich with humus from fallen, composting leaves. Plants grow best when they have plenty of moisture. You'll get the best flowering when you give wild geranium a spot with part shade and ample water. Historically a poultice from the base or pounded roots of the plant was used for burns, hemorrhoids and repelling insects. The leaves and roots were used for sore throats, hemorrhages, gonorrhea, and cholera. Like many other tannin-containing substances, Native Americans also used Wild Geranium to help with diarrhea. The most interesting health benefits of geranium include its ability to lower stress levels, reduce inflammation, relieve menstrual pain, strengthen the immune system, ease digestion, and improve kidney, skin, and hair health. It has antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties, which help heal wounds faster.
