6 Volume Set Carl Sandburg’s Abraham Lincoln - The Sangamon Edition

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This six-volume set belonged to my father-in-law. My husband recalled they were in his dad’s bookcase as early as 1955. They appear as though they have never been read. There are no high-lightings, underscores, or margin notations. In my opinion, from reading eBay’s descriptions, this set fails to meet the requirements of “like new” for the reasons I attempt to show in the photos and describe here. They really are in very good condition and have very little foxing. I have taken photos of the cover page in each volume. Then after that I display anything of note that I noticed, and will mention it here. The first six photos display the books as a group, showing the condition of the covers, the spines, and the corners of the covers. There is very minimal wear on the tops of the spines, but there is some wear because of individuals removing the books from the shelf. (Photo #6.) The corners of the covers show very marginal wear, from being moved about, packed to be moved, and the like. Below, I discuss each volume in order showing the cover page, the copyright page, and anything that is significant with regard to that volume. Volume One has more than a simple ownership mark on the back, inside cover. It appears that a child placed a scrawl over the ownership information. Further, on the facing page it appears that someone wrote something in pencil and also as thought the child did some additional marking. I have not attempted to erase or clean any of these marks. The cover, and cover page, seem to have pulled away from the book itself just a bit, but the binding tape is not visible and the cover continues to be soundly attached. There is some foxing on the front cover and cover page, this is displayed in the photos. Volume Two has some foxing on the inside of the back cover and adjacent cover page. There are also two spots on the edges of the pages. These spots are not visible on the pages themselves, just on the edges. Volumes Three, Four, and Five are all in very good condition. They all have some amount of foxing in the fold where the covers join the books. Given the limitations of showing all of this in 25 photos I cannot add more photos of this foxing. The pictures displayed are as bad as any in these three volumes. Volume 6 had spots on the top edges of the pages. These spots are visible on the top book in photos #4 and 5. These spots do not show on the pages themselves, only on the edges. Please look closely at the photos. Payment through eBay is required.
