Introduction. This VNA calibration and verification kit is ideal for accurate calibration of VNAs when measuring 3.5 mm or SMA devices. It will work with any HP, Agilent or Keysight VNA. We can supply the coefficients for HP, Agilent and Keysight in a format readable by the VNA. For the ENA, PNA, PNA-X and FieldFox instruments, the files will be on the USB stick. For the 8753, 8719, 8720, 8722 and 8510C, you can choose a floppy disk as an option. Coefficients for the 4395A and 4396B are not on the USB stick, but we can supply those - just ask. The kit comes with lifetime support, so if you use a different VNA at a later date, we should be able to supply files. Despite being a precision instrument, a vector network analyzer gets most of its accuracy from the calibration kit. A good calibration kit, in good condition, is essential for accurate use of any VNA. This is true for both phase and amplitude measurements - it is wrong to assume that a calibration kit is not needed if only magnitude measurements are needed. Accurate electrical models are needed of the opens and short circuits, as the assumption an open is a perfect open, and a short is a perfect short, as described in most textbooks, is incorrect. A number of eBay sellers sell low-cost calibration kits, but these are effectively useless, as they don't have the mathematical models of the opens and shorts necessary to load the constants into a VNA, and do not have anywhere near the optimal phase difference between open and short, which is 180 degrees. Neither do they come with full technical support. This is an SMA calibration and verification kit, than depending on the specification selected, can work to a maximum of 7, 10 or 12 GHz. It will work with any professional VNA, including all models from HP, Agilent, Keysight, Anritsu, Tektronix, Rohde and Schwarz etc). We supply data files suitable for almost any VNA on a USB stick. The full S-parameters of each calibration standard in the kit are supplied on a USB stick. The design of this kit is vastly superior to that of other cheap calibration kits sold on eBay and elsewhere. The data is measured on an HP 8720D VNA with 85052B 3/5 mm cal kit. If you set up the VNA, then measure this verification standard, you will have confidence your kit is set up properly. Male-Male adapter with measured electrical delay, to help in making measurements on non-insertable devices. (This is unnecessary if the VNA supports unknown thru calibration.) Female-Female adapter with measured electrical delay, to help in making measurements on non-insertable devices. (This is unnecessary if the VNA supports unknown thru calibration.) USB stick with data on it on the measured attenuator, as well as S-parameters of the calibration standards, all the coefficients. A very high quality Peli 1060 case, which is waterproof and dustproof (IP67 rated). This is usually supplied in black, but sometimes yellow. No additional options. You must have a 4 lb inch (0.48 Nm) torque wrench to use the kit properly, so only chose this option if you have a suitable torque wrench. These have a lifetime of 500 connections and disconnections, which is considerably more than standard U.FL adapters, which are designed for 20 connections and disconnections. SMA female to U.FL female.SMA male to U.FL male. These U.FL adapters have a measured electrical delay, so their effect can be compensated for by port extensions, moving the reference plane, or whatever else your vector network analyzer calls such a procedure. The delay is given with the other parameters of the kit. Note the lifetime of U.FL connectors usually is about 20 matings, but the low retention force adapters have a long life and have the same 1-year warranty as the rest of the SMA calibration kit. (Higher torques can be used under certain circumstances, but 4 lb inch gives a reliable connection for use in a laboratory. For a permanent connections, with all stainless steel connectors, a higher torque can be used, which will reduce the risk of connections coming lose if subjected to vibration.)
