Description: Limited first edition, stated #929/1500 copies. Volume 10 of the Complete Works (first complete English set), edited by Oscar Levy. This edition was translated by Thomas Common, with poetry rendered by Paul V. Cohn and Maude D. Petre. Also known as The Gay Science (La Gaya Scienza). Hard cover, no dust jacket (DJ). See photos for condition. Hard cover boards have moderate surface scuffing and scratching. The spine is dampstained with what look like drips of water that dried, which are also visible on boards near spine. Boards have some small light dot stains. Fabric lightened near edges. Thin strips of fabric missing on top and bottom of spine, likely chipped off - surrounding fabric has small rips and some is chipping. Mild bumping around edges. Corners curling in - fabric fraying at corners. Ding near back board top corner. Endpaper toned. Pencil on ffep. Blue stain on front hinge bottom gutter, which bleeds through to the title page behind. First tile page heavily toned, likely due to newspaper that was left adjacent. Page edges lightly toned. Widening in the gutters in spots, showing binding thread. Page edges untrimmed on bottom and fore edges, so many edges have small rips and chips and creased parts. Sticker on bottom of back pasted down endpaper near gutter, which is obscured by a dampstain at the bottom of the gutter, which is visible at the very bottom of the last ~5 pages of the text block. Otherwise, pages appear clean and clear of highlighting, writing, markings, underlining, or other notable damage or staining.
