Description: 131 p. This was a Ph.D. dissertation at U.C.L.A. in the Doctor of Philosophy, submitted in 1972. It is an authorized facsimile printed by microfilm in 1983. From the Abstract:"It is hypothesized that successes and failures attributed to different causes have different consequences. This paper outlines the classificatory systems that have been used to describe perceived causes of success and failure and presents a new taxonomy that provides a more complete description of the differences between perceived causes. It is proposed that the perceived causes of success and failure may be described in terms of three dimensions of perceived cause: location (internal-external), stability (stable-unstable) and intentionality (intentional-unintentional). Evidence relating perceived causality to various consequences of success and failure is reviewed within the context of the proposed three dimensional scheme. Two studies are then presented which support the proposed taxonomy and point to differences between various consequences of success and failure."
