Description: GEORGIAN OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE CANDLESTICKS A pair of George III silver plated candlesticks by the sought-after maker Matthew Boulton. Of extra large size, heavy construction and very grand appearance; they have a uniform degree of 'copper bleed' (exposed base copper) due to years of excessive polishing of the silver plated finish. This pair are perfectly functional but would benefit from being re-plated if that is your preference. The candlesticks are both stamped with the twin sunburst mark for Matthew Boulton. Date: early 19th century, circa 1800 - 1810 Condition: Fair but cosmetically-challenged functional condition. Both candlesticks have uniform copper bleed in the usual raised points such as the plinth, columns and sconce urns. Structurally they are very sound (have almost certainly never been dropped) without major damage or dents; having just a few light dings to the plinth edges. The bobeches are silver plated brass later replacements. They have been recently cleaned to remove most of the tarnish, although a little remains in the crevices.
