In fact, it became a hotbed of Nazi "infiltration" which laid the groundwork for what would prove almost inevitable - the merger of Austria and Germany into the "Greater" Reich (Empire) in 1938. The very name for Austria in German - "Oesterreich" (Eastern Empire) - speaks volumes in this context. This 1 Schilling coin was used to solicit donations during the Party's 1936 "Christmas Drive" as well as to advance the cause. It was not only spendable but also a cherished keepsake for those who donated. You'll immediately recognize it as a masterpiece of minimalist art deco design. A giant "1" and "S" appear lleft and right of its bold central vertical device which seamlessly integrates the words "NSDAP" and "OESTERREICH" with the Nazi Eagle and Swastika. The equally impactful reverse wraps the date and the inscription "Weihnachtsspende der NSDAP in Oesterr." (Christmas Charity Drive of the National Socialist Workers Party in Austria) around a central square framing a textured surface and the inscription "Let the mitigation of the suffering of the best among us through this drive be our sworn duty". Does anybody smell a wolf in sheep's clothing? Note: this coin replaces the 50 Pfennig "Hitler Spende" coin we recently sold after it received many thousands of views. There's more where this one came from, but be warned: no two are the same, and they come from a collection 35 years in the making, so there's little likehood of the same one appearing again anytime soon, especially in the offered condition (somewhere between 65 and 70).
