Boards generally bumped and rubbed, else a clean attractive set. An incredible, nearly complete set of this monthly periodical which launched in 1890, edited by English astrologer and theosophist, Alan Leo (1860-1917). First called The Astrologer's Magazine, Leo changed the name to Modern Astrology, after the first five volumes, in 1895. Its stated object was to "thoroughly purify and re-establish the ancient science of Astrology. Through planetary symbology, it seeks to explain the ONE universal spirit in its varied manifestations." Leo and his magazine which ran continuously all the way until 1940 helped revive the science in England, Europe, and America.Gardner in his Catalogue Raisonné... which was published while the magazine was still well in print, states "it is one of the best modern publications of the kind we have."These bound volumes contain all issues published between 1890 and 1904, EXCEPT July-December, 1901, or volume X of Modern Astrology, which is lacking from this set. A rare chance to own a substantial run including the scarce early volumes.Gardner 950, 975Will require extra shipping charge. .
