It is lost to history exactly how many of these lamps were made, but this is the only one we have ever seen come to the marketplace - possibly because no one who owns one, ever sells it. At the very least, the postwar Italian porcelain makers knew how to market their wares effectively! Offered is the incredibly rare Italian mid century commemorative "Divine Leadership" or "Emperors” Lamp. It is the finest expression of both Florence porcelain and the lamp makers art and is of superb quality throughout. Manufactured in Italy it commemorates divine emperors with the same images found on the coins of the late 19th century. The gold British Crown with Victoria and St. George slaying the dragon are represented. The gold four Dukaten with Franz Joseph I of Austria and the gold 10 Franc with Napoleon III are also depicted. Emperor Augustus the first emperor of Rome is also depicted as he appears on a Gold Aureus coin from 15-13 BC . All these emperors share long duration reigns. All are depicted as they were featured on coinage. The gilt bronze work and fine porcelain are beyond exceptional. The gilding and impressions of emperors are as crisp and gorgeous as the day the lamp was made. The black, red and gold color scheme is the epitome of elegance! This is a lamp that was designed for royalty and titled personages and captures the late 19th century mindset of great appreciation for emperors and divine leadership.
