Description: Pair of decorative Antique Elkington & Co, Victorian era, silver over copper high relief candlesticks. Adorned with figural god/goddesses, rams heads, lions and more. They are in overall good condition and over the years, some copper shows on the high points. There are a few little dings here and there, commiserate with age. I've lightly wiped over it once with Wrights Silver Polish and removed some of the darker patina but I did want to leave some to accentuate the design. It does have Elkington & Co marks, one with an L and one with an X. These appear to be made at different time periods, I believe, in the second half to late 1800s. One is a quarter of an inch taller than the other. There's also little difference in weight with the shorter being heavier. They are both marked with 414 which I believe is probably the style number and the number 1022 is also scratched into the base of each. The shorter candlestick, the X, is also stamped with HP. According to my research the only thing I can find to coordinate with that is quoted as the following from the site silvercollection.it, X date and note #20 ... "date not identified for an unusual "HP" intertwined into a lozenge mark. A suggested hypothesis is that Elkington outsourced some work to John Henry Potter of Rockingham Works, Sheffield to fulfil some large commission (possibly the contract with the Hotel Cecil in London which was being built in 1896)" These were acquired from an old North Carolina family. I purchased a number of pieces and the majority of the pieces were from the 1800s. Approximate measurements: 6"H, 6"H x 2"Diam 2 lb 8 oz Note: Used condition. Please examine all of the pictures closely, as they are part of the description. When buying pre-owned or vintage items, please expect some aging, wear and minor imperfections. All items are sold as-is. Shipping: Cost varies based on weight and location. I do my very best to package items with extra care and I do sometimes use recycled shipping when appropriate. Items are shipped within 1 business day of receiving payment. I determine the best means of shipment to your location and that is usually through USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail. This will be noted in the shipping description on the item page. Returns: All returns must be postmarked no later than 30 days after receiving the item. I will take the item as a return but the buyer must pay shipping. It must also be returned in the same condition it was received. About me: I graduated with a Bachelor's in Interior Design in '97. I worked in the field for 20 years successfully until having twins with medical issues. This necessitated my transition to a different kind of work and staying home with them. Recently, I have reignited my passion for design with my (mostly) vintage and antiques eBay business. I'm very small but I get to handle all aspects and make sure my customers are happy. I find it very fulfilling to find hidden treasures for others to enjoy! In a strange way, it keeps me in touch with my design roots and helps make a little money to participate in paying bills for my family. Thank you so much for looking and for your purchase, I really appreciate you!
