Description: One of two similar instruments I presently have available on eBay, though this one is a monster! A fine quality and extremely large mid-Victorian bar-limb compound monocular microscope, circa 1860, contained within its original fitted case and with a full complement of accessories. Though without maker's mark it is of a similar pattern to one developed by the renowned microscope designer Andrew Ross in the 1840s. It has a working height of around 56cm.Condition: A beautiful instrument in very good original condition with just the right degree of patination giving it a nice sense of age and history, yet still in full working order and accompanied by a good range of accessories. Coarse and fine focusing are both functioning correctly, as is the X and Y movement to the mechanical stage. The case retains its original French Polish, retaining beautiful colour and shine. The case is missing its key, the knob is missing to the lower drawer and the carry handle is possibly a replacement. OFFERS: If considering making an offer please bear in mind that while eBay has now removed all charges for private sellers, its charges for business sellers continue to rise. For me, these currently stand at around 24%, making eBay by far the most expensive of the three platforms that I currently sell on. If you do make an offer, please do not be offended if it is rejected. I strive to offer only the best quality items at the most competitive prices that I can. This item will be carefully packed and promptly dispatched. Overseas buyers are welcome, import charges may apply.
