Description: Antique Primitive Carved Tagua Nut SALAMANDER LIZARD Figure Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE CARVED LIZARD Wonderful antique primitive hand carved tagua nut or stone lizard of salamander figure measuring about 4" in length. Featuring simple lines with decorative carving on the back to mimic skin, inlaid eyes appear to be baleen, with tiny feet and a long tail and snout. Condition is worn - all four feet have chipping and loss - the material is yellowed and tanned from age. I don't know if this is Eskimo or American Indian- guessing an amulet, effigy or fetish. I believe it is a Salamander or Lizard - just a striking, 19th century artifact - visually interesting with wonderful folk art appeal! If questions, please contact me - thanks! Images sell!
