Description: This antique Rex Visible No 4 Typewriter is a rare find for collectors and enthusiasts alike. Originally developed as the Harris Visible type writer introduced in 1908 as a reliable, simple and sturdy typewriter, the machine was built to specifications issued by the Sears Roebuck company. It was to be a relatively inexpensive workhorse typewriter marketed through the Sears catalog for $39.80. The Rex Visible uses a 3-row, Qwerty, 28-key, frontstrike impact mechanism. The Rex Visible #4 typewriter in this listing was manufactured by REX TYPEWRITER COMPANY, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin circa 1915-1920 for $57, at a time when most major brands were sold for about $100. The Rex Visible includes a wider-than-normal 10.5” platen, a two-color ribbon shifter with stencil setting, a qwerty keyboard, a backspace key, right- and left-hand shift keys (for figures and capitals), a tab key, carriage release key and an easily removable platen. THIS TYPEWRITER IS UNTESTED! ALL KEYS WORK AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO FUNCTION BUT SOLD “AS IS”. THE “Z” KEY IS THE ONLY KEY THAT GETS STICKY. NEEDS A CLEANING BUT ALL KEYS AND PARTS MOVE FUNCTIONALLY AND COMPLETE IN A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION.
