Description: Antique Spelter Art Nouveau French Belle Bust - Alphonse Henri Nelson This listing is for an of-the-period spelter copy of a bronze bust sculpted by Alponse Henri Nelson (or Ant. Nelson). This is not a modern reproduction. This is a circa 1900 piece that was modeled after one of Nelson's more expensive bronze works. From the lady's costume and tricorn hat, the piece dates closer to 1890. Spelter was a medium used to create items and make them affordable to the middle class. Condition: there appears to be 2 defects in the casting when manufactured. One in her hat and one on one of the ruffles on the front. There is a small chip in her hair. These issues can be seen in the last 3 photos. Measurements:11 1/2 inches tall x 7 inches wide.Weight: 3 lbs, 13 oz. Alphonse Henri Nelson (1854 - 1919) was born in Paris and attended the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts and exhibited at the Paris Salon beginning in 1882. He won an honourable mention in 1889.
