Description: AZURITE SUN ON KAOLINITE MATRIX 87 X 73 X 29 MM 185 G This is a specimen of Azurite Sun in Kaolinitic siltstone from the only place in the world, Malbunka Copper mine, Aranda country in Northern Territory. Azurite is a deep blue copper mineral produced by the oxidation weathering of copper ore deposits. Azurite suns form between layers of a clay mineral called Kaolinite, compressing and forcing the Azurite to grow radially, creating a "sun". Azurite suns are incredibly unique not just because of how they form but because they are only found in the Malbunka Copper Mine in Australia. This particular specimen comes from the mine near Utji (Areyonga), Western Aranda Country in Northern Territory. The specimen dimensions: 87 mm x 73 mm at widest points, and 29 mm thick at the thickest point. The "sun" itself measures 28 mm x 27 mm. The weight is 185 g. Images were taken outdoors in sunlight. Combined postage available.
