Description: This unusual one-of-a-kind rare vase is a stunning piece of early 20th-century art. It is hand signed by Eva Cordery (who lived in Providence, Rhode Island and worked for Lenox) and dated 1903. It features the backstamp of Belleek and the beautiful applied sterling silver overlay by Gorham. It has the Gorham marks and is signed by the artist E.M.D. on the silver near the bottom of the vase. I was unable to identify the silversmith. Under that mark is "TX LA". I believe this means it was intended for the Texas Pavillion at the 1904 Louisiana Exposition. Based on my research CAC (early Lenox) used the name Belleek before a lawsuit forced Lenox to remove the Belleek backstamp. Lenox also sold many of these finished vases to other companies, most notably Gorham, who then did the stunning sterling silver applique work. This sterling silver overlay is probably the best I have seen as far as workmanship and quality. It is VERY thick. Gorham displayed many vases and works of art at the St. Louis Exposition (Worlds Fair) of 1904, and considering the history and all the marks, I believe this vase was most certainly on display during this time. It features beautiful hand-painted roses on a glossy porcelain finish. The vase stands at 10 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" wide.
